Family policies
Whether you may watch, what to wear, who collects, and how photos are handled.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
Watching class and recitals
Parents of Pre-Ballet dancers stay in the building and wait in the family room, which has a window onto the studio. For older levels you may wait there or step out. One Saturday each session is a watch Saturday, when families sit along the studio wall. Recital seating is open, and your own photos and video from your seat follow the rule on the program, without flash.
What to wear and bring
Pre-Ballet wears a leotard, or a plain top with leggings or a skirt, and ballet slippers or bare feet. From Ballet 1, a leotard and tights with ballet slippers. Hair is up off the neck, and jewelry stays at home except stud earrings. Socks are fine for the first weeks, and we will tell you when shoes are needed. Costume sizes are taken in person in the winter.
When to keep your child home
Please keep your dancer home with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, and until they have been well for a full day. Message the school and we will tell you how the class can be made up.
Drop-off and pickup
A grown-up brings and collects every Pre-Ballet dancer, and the teacher hands each child to the person who came with them. For older dancers the door opens fifteen minutes before class, and we ask you to tell us who is collecting. We ask for ID from anyone we haven't met.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close on Thanksgiving weekend and for winter break, and on a Saturday when the area's schools close for snow or ice. We text families that morning, and a class that is missed is made up like any other missed class.
Absences and late arrival
Please message us when your dancer will miss a class. A dancer who arrives after the warm-up joins quietly; if class is well under way, we will ask you to come back next week.
